I recall those first meetings with our transatlantic colleagues; we were a small, unrecognised profession from the UK with not much to offer other than enthusiasm and endless questions.

Roll forwards to October 2025 and the WFATT World Congress in Dublin; 吃瓜现场 is now one of the International Arrangement partners and a globally recognised accreditation body, regulator and professional association for Sport Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy.  Events like the 2025 World Congress have always been invaluable opportunities to work together, share experiences and expertise and develop our professions that not only benefits our members, but also the patients and systems we all work with.

This latest congress is a reminder of how far we have all come, we had leaders and members from across world and although there are only currently four IA partners, we expect that number to increase significantly over the next couple of decades and the current partners will be supporting aspirant professions wherever they can. This congress also represented a collaborative renewal and revision of the WFATT global strategy during the Leadership Summit, with a clear focus on supporting the development and recognition of our worldwide profession. All the previous WFATT Presidents have done excellent work laying the foundations for this, with Dr Brian Zeller now stepping down after a busy and very positive term and Dr Matthew Kutz will now be taking up the mantle as WFATT President and we look forward to working with him to continue to advance our profession, wherever you are in the world.

For this Congress, 吃瓜现场 also organised and coordinated the Woman in Sport and Healthcare project. There were excellent presentations from the IA organisations, with Eve Ralph from Her Game Too representing 吃瓜现场 and the UK, with a look at the fantastic work they have been doing and what we can all do going forwards to make the environments we work in more inclusive. See  for more details of their work and the 吃瓜现场 dedicated webpage here.

We are delighted to announce that the next World Congress will be hosted by 吃瓜现场 at the Surgeons Quarter, Edinburgh on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd October, 2027. More details to follow!

Steve Aspinall, Chief Executive of 吃瓜现场.

吃瓜现场 Registrants are ideal for key shifts in new NHS PlanVictoria WakenshawThu, 03 Jul 2025 11:42:15 +0000/news/basrat-registrants-are-ideal-for-key-shifts-in-new-nhs-plan66320cddd958fd5652fcfba5:6632120214466f4bbcb90a59:686659d3902cd92a4e9776dbThe New NHS plan has been unveiled today, with emphasis on three key changes including shifting from hospital to community and from sickness to prevention.

吃瓜现场 registered Sport Rehabilitators are ideally placed to make a difference.

High-quality community rehabilitation

吃瓜现场 supports Sport Rehabilitators to deliver effective, person-centred rehabilitation and work with Alliance partners to assist those in need.

The new NHS Plan is looking to move hospital care to community care and states: 鈥渕illions more patients will be treated closer to home with the roll out of Neighbourhood Health Services across the country as part of the 10 Year Health Plan.鈥

Healthcare professionals delivering person-centred rehabilitation

Sport Rehabilitators help people suffering from MSK pain, injury or illness. They work with people of all ages and all backgrounds to maintain their health and fitness, recover from and prevent injury and reduce pain using exercise, movement and manual based therapeutic interventions.

吃瓜现场 and Sport Rehabilitators can aid with this key focus on prevention, as clinicians, Sport Rehabbers focus on treating the patient in front of them and work to inspire patients to make positive lifestyle choices. The new plan references prevention: 鈥淭his is a positive step towards the healthier future people want. Obesity is a chronic, relapsing condition that needs long-term support. Crucially, as the Government now rightly recognises, we must also shift to preventing ill health before it starts.鈥

CIMSPA and 吃瓜现场 announce new partnership吃瓜现场 Admin OfficeThu, 29 Aug 2024 13:16:16 +0000/news/cimspapartnership66320cddd958fd5652fcfba5:6632120214466f4bbcb90a59:66d074a090ad4029d0754baeThe Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is pleased to announce an important new partnership with the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (吃瓜现场).

CIMSPA is the chartered professional body for the sport and physical activity sector workforce and 吃瓜现场 is the professional membership, accreditation and regulatory organisation that represents Sport Rehabilitators in the UK.

At the centre of the partnership is a commitment that the two organisations will collaborate on areas of common interest to ensure that newly developed career pathways and professional standards for sport and physical activity professionals are aligned to the needs of employers, employees and the wider sport and physical activity sector and are complementary to those established in the profession for Sport Rehabilitators.

The two organisations share a goal of creating a more standardised approach to Higher Education (HE) course endorsement, aligned to agreed professional standards, to provide clarity and confidence to the HE sector.

For occupations in the field of Sport Rehabilitation, CIMSPA will recognise 吃瓜现场鈥檚 undergraduate and postgraduate endorsement, directing members who wish to progress their career to Sports Rehabilitation to 吃瓜现场 endorsed courses and 吃瓜现场 registration. CIMSPA will also consult and collaborate with 吃瓜现场 in its work with the higher education sector, standards and professional recognition.

Speaking about the intended partnership, Colin Huffen, CIMSPA Associate Director 鈥 Policy and Professional Services said:

鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to working more closely with Steve and the team at 吃瓜现场, who are the only approved regulator of the sports rehabilitation workforce. Steve Aspinall, Chief Executive of 吃瓜现场, also commented:

鈥淪port Rehabilitation and the Sport and Physical Activity sector are professional areas that provide vital contributions to public health and wellbeing. For commissioners, employers and the public to have confidence in the professionals working in these fields, there needs to be clear and robust quality assurance of educational content, delivery and standards along with appropriate ongoing regulation of the working professional. 吃瓜现场 and CIMSPA working jointly towards these common goals is an exciting collaboration that will improve standards across the sectors and provide much stronger public confidence in these professional areas.鈥

Samantha Parsons, 吃瓜现场 registered Sport Rehabilitator and Director of Arch Health and Fitness in Kew played a key role in supporting GB tennis in Paris. Sam shares her story with us.

I had the honour of being part of the Great Britain tennis medical team at the Olympic Games, following my experience at the National Tennis Centre and with the Davis Cup Team.鈥

Preparation for team requirements

"Significant preparation was undertaken by the GB Tennis Team Manager, Iain Bates with the British Olympic Association to anticipate the team's requirements. The BOA offered 3 staff training sessions prior to the games to ensure all medical and administrative staff were adequately prepared, we also engaged with representatives from Physio Lab and Rock Tape to provide exposure to cutting-edge equipment and products whilst also allowing for networking with professionals across a variety of other sporting disciplines.

Together with fellow physiotherapists Shane Annun and Will Herbert, we were adequately prepared regarding tournament format, venues. A facilities app enabled us to manage reservations for massage beds and gym spaces.

One of the most important parts of our preparation involved ensuring the team had the supplies needed for the duration of the tournament.  Ranging from tape and S&C kit to detailed nutritional supplements in line with each of the players鈥 requirements, coordinated by the GB Tennis Team nutritionist, Dan Ellis."

Accommodation, cardboard beds and food!

"Adorned in the iconic stripes of adidas, our home away from home was nestled within the athletes鈥 village where the unlikely cosiness of cardboard beds took us by surprise. We were fortunate to have another Team GB venue 20 minutes away from the village which housed additional facilities for athlete preparation and allowed nearest and dearest to see the athletes.  Thankfully, the culinary experience at the GB lodge was somewhat superior to the offerings at the Olympic Village due to the efforts of the very talented Team GB exclusive chef."

Daily roles and heat management

"Each day consisted of checking the requirements of individual players and coordinating travel, court practice times, warm ups, gym and treatment requests both before, during and after practice and matches.

The days were relatively long depending on what court times we were allocated, but we often left the village at 8.30am and rarely returning before 9pm in the evening with additional treatment in the village beyond that time if required (sometimes until 1.30am).  Despite the early rain, conditions were soon verging on the tropical with temperatures court-side reaching over 34 degrees, an additional aspect to be managed.  With that in mind, it became essential that each player made good use of the ice baths and sleep pods to maximise their individual recovery needs."

Medical Facilities

"We benefitted from the robust backing of Team GB's medical staff and had swift access to medical services when needed. A poly clinic was located within the village for MRI and advanced medical needs. Our tennis doctor, Guy Evans, and the team at Fortius were also on hand back in the UK if needed.

Whilst results didn鈥檛 go as well as was hoped, each of the players performed with extraordinary spirit and certainly relished the Olympic Experience, most notably with Andy Murray concluding his prolific sporting journey.

The experience was both remarkable and rewarding, and thankfully now a family holiday beckons!"

Sam is pictured with GB Tennis stars Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury who have nine Grand Slam doubles titles between them.

吃瓜现场 is a member of the Community Rehabilitation Alliance (CRA).

The alliance comprises more than 60 charities and professional bodies who are all committed to improving commissioning, planning and delivery of rehabilitation. It is in this shared endeavour that we have signed this letter to each of the three political party leaders clearly setting out why it is vital that the next government must prioritise and invest in community rehabilitation services.

The alliance鈥檚 priorities are:

  • to gain political commitment to delivering universal access to rehabilitation to meet needs

  • to improve the quality of rehabilitation through new models, better data collection, planning, commissioning and delivery of services.

It is vital that rehabilitation forms a core part of NHS future planning. The next government must make a commitment to rehabilitation as an equal pillar of health care to medicines and surgery. That鈥檚 why we鈥檝e signed this letter as part of the Community Rehabilitation Alliance.

Calling for an end to the postcode lottery for NHS rehabilitation services that help people recover from the likes of car crashes, cancer or strokes, the campaign wants life-changing NHS rehab services to be made available to everyone in the UK no matter where they live.

吃瓜现场 is a member of the Community Rehab Alliance which supports the campaign alongside over 20 healthcare charities, royal colleges such as the British Geriatric and the Stroke Association.

Stephen Fry stresses how important rehab for all is 鈥淚 had a very nasty fall from a 6ft high stage onto concrete. The orthopaedic surgeon warned me that people who had fallen from lesser heights had never walked again. I am one of the lucky ones and I am feeling whole and healed thanks to good physiotherapy.

I feel very lucky to be able to walk again which is why I鈥檓 supporting this campaign to make rehabilitation services available no matter where you live. Rehabilitation is just as important as medicine and surgery in helping people reclaim their lives after injury, illness or because of long-term conditions. Everyone deserves access to rehabilitation and I back this campaign to have rehab reps in every hospital to ensure everyone gets the right help at the right time.鈥
